We’ve got a pretty good working relationship with our hop merchants, but it certainly doesn’t harm every now and again to do a little shakedown with our reps to see what the latest experimental hops coming out of the farms are. When we learned about ID-158, dubbed “PINK” after its distinctive trial markers in the field, we were immediately curious and charmed. Bringing all the usual intense citrus and stonefruit flavours we’d expect from Jackson Farms over in Idaho, but with an undercurrent of honey, jazz apple and vanilla, we clamoured to get this incredible sounding hop into a beer, and Velvet Motion is the result. Conscious that it might lean too heavily into the overly sweet territory, we’ve dosed this beer with not only T90 Simcoe, but Cryo Simcoe to boot to bring the balance with just a whisper of pine and pithy citrus rind, but enough apricot and passionfruit to act as a compliment to this incredible experimental hop.
